3 Actions Needed to Protect Lake Simcoe

On March 22nd, representatives from SCGC, the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition, Lake Simcoe Watch, joined Sandy Shaw, environment critic of the NDP, at Queens Park as Shaw introduced a motion calling on the provincial government to follow through on commitments to protect the lake.

The motion highlights three key steps that need to be taken:

  1. Implementation of 2008’s Lake Simcoe Protection Act, which sets a target of reducing phosphorus to 44 tonnes per year by 2030;
  2. Evaluate the implications for the environment and water of the Bradford Bypass;
  3. Begin work on a promised phosphorus reduction facility before the end of this year.
