On March 22nd, representatives from SCGC, the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition, Lake Simcoe Watch, joined Sandy Shaw, environment critic of the NDP, at Queens Park as Shaw introduced a motion calling on the provincial government to follow through on commitments to protect the lake.
The motion highlights three key steps that need to be taken:
- Implementation of 2008’s Lake Simcoe Protection Act, which sets a target of reducing phosphorus to 44 tonnes per year by 2030;
- Evaluate the implications for the environment and water of the Bradford Bypass;
- Begin work on a promised phosphorus reduction facility before the end of this year.
