RED ALERT: Hwy 413 could be approved with no further public input
The Ontario Government is trying to ram through Highway 413 and a huge gas plant while you’re distracted by the holidays.
A recent Supreme Court ruling found flaws with the federal Impact Assessment process, but this was just an advisory ruling which can be accommodated with changes to the Impact Assessment act. The Court specifically ruled that the federal government has jurisdiction to review projects to ensure that environmental impacts are avoided or mitigated
Since the ruling, the province has gone to court to try to get the Impact Assessments for Highway 413 and an unpopular gas plant on the shores of Lake Huron thrown out before the federal government has time to revise the Impact Assessment Act. Now they’re pressuring federal MPs and Ministers to abandon pivotal assessments in Ontario altogether! Worse still, we’re hearing rumours that some Federal MPs think Ontarians won’t mind if they walk away from their responsibility to protect our environment! We need as many Ontarians as possible to contact their MP before the end of the year and tell them not to roll over to Premier Ford. With gratitude, Tim Gray, Executive Director Environmental Defence |
