Tell Feds to ensure clean electricity in Ontario

WILDERNESS COMMITTEE
Doug Ford’s plans to build new gas plants for electricity generation would be a disaster for the climate and affordable energy. There are cleaner and cheaper options to build a net-zero power grid for the province by 2035, in line with Canada’s target for 100 per cent clean electricity.
There’s still time to tell the feds to set this right and close the loop. Don’t delay, comments close on November 2!
The federal Clean Electricity Regulations, still under development, contain a loophole that exempts gas-plants built before 2025, and the Ontario government is trying to ram through as many as possible before then.
If Doug Ford’s gas-plant expansion plans go through, emissions from this sector are projected to increase by almost 400 per cent by 2030 and over 600 per cent by 2040, according to the Independent Electricity System Operator. This is climate foolishness.
To keep their 2035 clean energy commitment, Canada must strengthen the Clean Electricity Regulations to ensure no new gas-power plants in Ontario.
