The Ford Government’s Greenbelt Corruption
The Auditor General’s report on the Greenbelt has made it crystal clear that if you have the right lobbyists, if you attend the right weddings, if you sit next to the right staffer and pass them the right dossier filled with information about the precise parcels of land you’d like removed from the Greenbelt, then you can make yourself a tidy several billion dollars in profit.
In a nutshell that’s what the development game has become under this government – connections and insider access.
What was protected for the benefit of all Ontarians is now being carved up for the benefit of a handful of ultra-wealthy developers, and local MPPs are among those approving this giveaway.
So what can be done?
We believe that a community driven response is needed to this sort of top down corruption; so we’re hosting a special public forum on Tuesday, Sept 12 at Grace United Church in Barrie.
Together, we will share ideas and coordinate on how we can take action in protecting our Greenbelt. We have some special guest speakers lined up to help us think about our response from different perspectives. It’s a free event, but we invite you to RSVP at the link below.
