‘I want to bring back honest, ethical government’: Liberal leadership hopeful Bonnie Crombie visits Midland

Ontario Liberal leadership hopeful Bonnie Crombie stopped by the Midland Cultural Centre on Aug. 16 and addressed a small crowd of locals.

Crombie, one of five candidates vying to lead the Ontario Liberal Party, will participate in five leadership debates beginning Sept. 14. Party members will cast ranked ballots the weekend of Nov. 25, with the winner set to be unveiled Dec. 2.

Here are five quotes from her Midland appearance:

1. “I thought the ballot question would be, ‘Is your life better or more affordable than it was eight years ago?’ But now I can see that the ballot question will be, ‘Do you have trust and confidence in this government, or have they betrayed you through their corruption and unethical behaviour?’”

2. “I want to restore honesty and ethics to government. I never thought I would say that. You think it’s a given, but it’s not with this government. I see the path they are going down and, when I think things can’t get worse … we see (the Greenbelt) scandal.”
