Massive developments/sprawling urbanization, unsuitable and unsustainable short term decision making are THREATENING the Oro Moraine’s SENSITIVE ECOSYSTEMS and GROUNDWATER SYSTEMS.
Like the Oak Ridges Moraine, it is an ECOLOGICALLY IMPORTANT LANDFORM performing Ecological and Hydrological functions that are CRITICAL to the HEALTH of the environment and our communities.

There are very good reasons why the Oak Ridges Moraine is protected. People, government and years of research came together using SCIENCE FACT BASED legislation. An ecosystem-based land use planning approach was utilized and this is what we need to use for the Oro Moraine.
The ECOSYSTEM SERVICES these moraines provide (such as water filtration, water supply, reduction of climate change effects via carbon sink, removing air pollutants, and so many more) are all provided at NO COST to us and SAVE both taxpayers and government a lot of money.
For example, the Oak Ridges Moraine provides $3.2 billion dollars in ecosystem services/year. Saving versus sprawling developments/infrastructure which COSTS us millions (research has shown these developments NEVER pay for themselves).
Protecting the Oro Moraine is the FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE choice.
We are in a CLIMATE EMERGENCY and NOW more than ever we need to protect the lands and waters that PROTECT and PROVIDE for us.
