On Dec. 23, 2022, Minister Smith directed the IESO to ensure municipal approval for new gas projects.

On May 12, Toronto City Council passed a motion opposing any new or expanded fossil gas power generation in the city.

On May 16th, the IESO announced almost 600 megawatts of new gas-fired generation projects in communities including Toronto, Brampton, Halton Hills, Thorold, Windsor and St. Clair Township.

In response, Toronto Councillor Paula Fletcher submitted a motion for next week’s Council meeting asking for federal support to prevent expansion of the Portlands gas plant.

On Wed. June 14, 1 p.m., Toronto groups are gathering at T.O. City Hall (Nathan Phillis Square, near the TORONTO letters) to support Councillor Fletcher’s motion. Please join us and bring your fire extinguisher. And please share the FB event here and Twiiter post.

The IESO needs to respect communities. It also needs to stop gaslighting us about how fossil fuels are the only way we can keep our lights on. It’s the only way only if you are determined to ignore all the better, cleaner and lower-cost alternatives.

We’ve requested that politicians send letters/requests to PM Trudeau requesting strong Clean Electricity Regulations that would prohibit the building of new gas plants in Ontario and require ON to move to a net-zero electricity grid by 2030. To date we’ve received letters from Green MPs May and Morrice, Green MPP Schreiner, and NDP MPP Jessica Bell. We’ve posted their letters here. Citizens can send their own letters here.

As Canada’s forests burn, the Ford gov’t is adding fuel to the fire. Please help spread the word of this climate travesty on social media. Create your own social media posts or share/like/comment on ours. We’re creating stunning visuals. See samples below:
