Georgian College’s in-person powwow returns this March for the first time in four years. Students, employees and the public are invited to the college’s 15th traditional powwow to celebrate and learn about Indigenous culture, songs and dance. The theme this year is Honouring the Cycle of Life.

The annual powwow, organized by students and employees from the Indigenous Resource Centre, takes place in the Barrie Campus Athletic Centreon Saturday, March 11.

“We’re very excited to have all the amazing dancers, drummers and crafters back on campus making this a really special event,” said special events co-ordinator Vanessa Kennedy. “To gather again on campus with fellow students and staff is a major highlight this year. It will be reflective of the cycle of life our students have had to endure over the past few years.

“We are looking forward to gathering and hearing the heartbeat of our nation on campus grounds again. We look forward to reconnecting, making new friends and reminiscing with old ones. The event is open to all, so please come to the campus and experience our culture.”
Doors open to the public at 10:30 a.m. The spectacular Grand Entry will take place at noon and again at 7 p.m. for the evening session. The event wraps up around 9 p.m. A free dinner feast will take place from 5-6:30 p.m. for all attendees. A hand drum competition will take place during the dinner break, as well.
