How Ontario can add 1.5 million homes and save precious farmland

It will take 411 units being built every day for 10 years to reach provincial population targets — we must look past GTA to accomplish that.

Living in a place we can call home remains a big issue for Canadians this holiday season.

From Jan. 22 to 24, I will join hundreds of community leaders at the 2023 Rural Ontario Municipalities Conference (ROMA) that will be held across from Toronto’s City Hall at the Sheraton Centre.

No doubt Bill 23, More Homes Built Faster, 2022 and Bill 109, the More Homes for Everyone Act, 2022 will be greatly discussed in the halls of the Sheraton.

Premier Doug Ford and Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Steve Clark are expected to attend and will likely push their plans to grow the province by another 1.5 million homes by Dec. 31, 2031.

This is a tall order. Let’s do the math.
