The Town of Innisfil’s new council received blessings from community leaders, publicly declared an oath to office and gave personal, often emotional speeches during an inaugural ceremony Wednesday (Dec. 7) evening.

An honour guard led by an Innisfil Pipes and Drums bagpiper escorted the council-elect, made up of five entirely new members and four incumbents, to seats at the front of the chamber.

The incoming council received an Indigenous blessing from Jeff Monague, an elder and knowledge-keeper of Beausoleil First Nation, and an invocation from Innisfil Community Church’s Rev. Howard Courtney.

Then, one-by-one, they took an oath to office: “I will truthfully, faithfully and impartially exercise this office to the best of my ability,” each member said while promising not to accept payment or reward for making council decisions.

It wasn’t Mayor Lynn Dollin’s first rodeo.
