Gary Hetherington is excited to commence his campaign for re-election in Ramara’s Ward 4.

“I’m proud of what we accomplished during the last term, especially under very challenging times, but there is still much to do,” said Hetherington.

With the impending construction of over 400 homes by 2024 in Ward 4, Hetherington knows there will be a real need to provide the resources for the community. Increased economic development will be necessary to support those families as well as providing the infrastructure to ensure a quality of life that reflects the unique culture of Ramara.

Hetherington brings with him a wealth of experience having worked for Hydro One for over 20 years. After retiring he went to work as a building maintenance administrator for the Township of Ramara. He has extensive first-hand knowledge of municipal policies and procedures and has a successful track record in advocating for his constituents.

He is a year-round resident of the Township of Ramara with over 50 years of ties to the community and is a proud father of three, grandfather of two.

“I have been very active in my community for many years, having served as a past member of the Brechin and District Lions Club, a past member of the Mara Volunteer Fire Department, and current member of the Brechin Legion. For me, it’s all about community service,” explained Hetherington.

He looks forward to working in the reconfigured ward and welcomes the opportunity to hear about issues in the areas not previously encompassed in Ward 4. He will rely on his skills as an excellent communicator who is available and accessible to his constituents.

While he is proud of his achievements in his first term of office — being instrumental in bringing Good Doctors to the community, and acquiring speed bumps on Riverside Beach — Hetherington is not one to rest on his laurels. He is well aware that there are still many issues to address.

Hetherington is very pleased that the township is not coming out of COVID with debt. He also notes that the reconstruction of Simcoe Road 47 from Riverside Drive to Concession 1 will have a positive impact in Ward 4.

“As our community grows, we will have many challenges to meet the needs of the constituents. I believe I’m ready to take on those challenges,” said Hetherington.
