My name is Robert Young, and I’d be honoured to serve as your voice and council representative for the new Ward 6 in the Township of Oro-Medonte.

My two sons and I have been residents of Oro-Medonte for 20 years and we enjoy the pleasures and the challenges of owning a farm property. During that time, I’ve become well aware of the many issues that we’re facing both within our ward and across the township. I promise as your elected council representative to address and help resolve those issues to the best of my ability.

As a resident of the former Medonte Township and the newly created Ward 6, I feel that it’s essential that we have a stronger voice on council and work towards a more equitable distribution of the benefits which are available to Oro-Medonte citizens as a result of our tax dollars. The same tax dollars that seem to favourably provide parks and recreational facilities to our southern neighbours in the township.

I will work for a more accountable and transparent municipal government which listens to its residents and properly serves their needs and priorities.

The many challenges that we currently face and those that lie ahead of us can best be resolved through cooperation and the support of every member of council. I may and will disagree in council discussions but at the end of the day, I’ll work to reach a consensus which best serves the interests of our collective community.

A high priority will be selecting the best locations for new developments which do not compromise the quality of life for existing residents, their safety or peace of mind; whether they are residential or industrial developments with the goal of providing local employment opportunities.

Foremost it’s critically important that we protect and support our farmers and agricultural industry which are the foundation of our township and also, our water resources which are vitally important to all of us who live here.

With your support I’ll also work to improve the enforcement of by-laws, municipal policies, and speed limits, and eliminate the current disruption to residential neighbourhoods caused by short-term rentals. I believe that we can accomplish many of these objectives by working collaboratively and encouraging community input and participation in Council’s decision making.

Please vote for Robert Young on Oct. 24 for a strong voice and representation of Ward 6 on the new council.
