*************************
My name is Henry Sander and I am running to be re-elected to the position of Ward 2 councillor in Essa Township.
I was very fortunate to have had a 40-year municipal career, working within Simcoe County municipalities, which included 25 years as a treasurer and nine years as a chief administrative officer, retiring in 2019. Since 1986, I have been directly involved with municipal councils and their workings.
I have lived in Essa Township/Thornton for 61 years and my wife, Bonnie, and I have resided in our home since 1984. Through my years coaching minor baseball in Ivy and minor hockey in Thornton, I have met many wonderful families and community members.
Throughout my term as Essa Township’s Ward 2 councillor, I have been a strong voice for Ward 2 residents. I’ve also been appointed to many of the township’s various committees during this time and have strived to have a positive impact on each committee.
The reason I am running for re-election is to continue to be a strong voice for Ward 2 residents, lending my 40 years of treasury and administration experience to benefit the township. I would like to see the township implement a long-term financial plan, ensuring financial sustainability for Essa and maintaining reasonable tax rates.
Currently, Essa’s municipal tax rate is the lowest tax rate in the County of Simcoe. Continuance of promoting internet opportunities also remains a priority. I have enjoyed meeting with many residents and look forward to working on their behalf in the next term.
During the next term in office, I would like to promote and see the paving of the gravel roads in Ward 2. Additionally, I would promote fiscal responsibility through long-term planning to ensure a sustainable future for the township.
Finally, I would promote discussions to try and find solutions regarding community continuity, as it relates to the township staffing.
It has been a pleasure working with the Essa council and staff, and I look forward to tackling the challenges of the next term of office on your behalf.
