Simcoe County councillors get an earful during public meeting on municipal comprehensive review

With the population of Simcoe County expected to pass the half-million mark by 2051, figuring out where everyone will live and work is a tricky puzzle.

Solving it is the goal of the municipal comprehensive review (MCR), an ongoing process stemming from the province’s Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

virtual public meeting June 28 gave residents and other stakeholders a chance to provide input. Here are five comments provided to councillors:

1. “Anywhere non-profit or affordable housing is being developed, if the county and municipalities could look at exempting (development charges) … it’s easier and cheaper for these to be built.” — Jerry Martinovic, manager of housing services, Contact Community Services

2. “Our key recommendation is that municipalities consider increasing their intensification targets in settlement areas wherever possible beyond the county’s suggested minimum.” — Margaret Prophet, executive director, Simcoe County Greenbelt Coalition
