Simcoe North residents weigh in after Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives get re-elected in Ontario

Residents have mixed feelings about the Progressive Conservatives’ landslide election victory, which saw Premier Doug Ford’s government capture an 83-seat majority.

Stan Mathewson was yearning for change on election night.

“I was hoping for a government that really pays any attention at all to the climate crisis,” Mathewson told Simcoe.com. “The current one, and the new one, seems opposed to anything positive toward climate change.”

Mathewson, president of Sustainable Orillia, is urging the government to take what he says is necessary action on this key issue.

“Ditch their plans for gas plants, first of all, bring back (electric vehicle) incentives — those would be two important things,” he said. “A third one is to focus on energy conservation and energy efficiency of buildings.”
