Jeff Bumstead in race for Tay deputy mayor position

“A Better Tay for Everyone” is the campaign motto for one particular township resident.
Jeff Bumstead has announced his candidacy for deputy mayor of Tay Township in the upcoming 2022 municipal election to be held on October 24.
Currently serving a term as councillor of the municipality located on the shores of Georgian Bay, Bumstead said that it was through the support of family, friends, fellow council members, and nomination endorsers that prompted him to make the decision for the deputy mayor seat. (Recently, current Deputy Mayor Gerard La Chapelle entered his nomination papers for a seat on Tay Township council as a councillor, vacating the deputy mayor’s position for the upcoming term.)
“I have enjoyed the experience and challenge toward making Tay better as councillor. I look forward to running for deputy mayor and I am encouraged by the anticipation of being elected to continue representing Tay locally and at Simcoe County council,” stated Bumstead.
Born and raised in Tay with a wife and two grown children, Bumstead works as a civil servant for the Ministry of Solicitor General and Correctional Services with a flexible schedule to allow for municipal affairs and community involvement.
“With Tay’s draft official plan being reviewed by Simcoe County,” said Bumstead, “the next term of council will be a critical time to have someone dedicated to questioning, representing and challenging Tay and County staff to ensure Tay’s interests and future goals are considered and met.”
One initiative set forth by the candidate is the Bumstead’s Tay Priority Survey, which asks respondents several questions regarding priorities and directions for the township while also diving deeper into tax rates for residents to fill out.
Bumstead remarked, “I am excited for the upcoming election and gaining critical data from Tay voters along with the opportunity to maintain a voice on council, while working toward building on improvements achieved this term through discussions and collaboration with ratepayers, stakeholders, council members and Tay staff.”
