Collingwood Mayor Saunderson to take leave of absence to focus on provincial election

Collingwood Mayor Brian Saunderson will take a leave of absence starting April 19.

Saunderson, the Progressive Conservative candidate for the riding of Simcoe-Grey in the June 2 provincial election, said he will be on unpaid leave for the duration of the campaign.

During his absence, Deputy Mayor Keith Hull will assume the role of interim mayor, while Coun. Mariane McLeod will be interim deputy mayor.

If elected, Saunderson will have to step down as mayor.

Saunderson was named the candidate for the riding by Premier Doug Ford on June 4 of last year.

Saunderson practised law for 22 years, primarily focusing on civil litigation, real estate, wills and estates, and corporations.
