The WASAGA BEACH Climate Action Team

2021 WAS A VERY EXCITING YEAR !!!

Something important happened this past May….

The Wasaga Beach Council voted to declare a CLIMATE EMERGENCY and it hit the Newspapers

This provided the impetus for some of the residents to create the WASAGA BEACH CLIMATE ACTION TEAM (WBCAT). WBCAT started as a small passionate group of 5. Together we worked hard to create a brand, terms of reference, vision, and mission statements and define our goals.

WE ARE MAKING AN IMPACT !

The 2022 budget public consultation meeting in December showed us that the Town Hall is now becoming aware.

The Treasury Department issued a recommendation to hire an Energy Consultant to prepare an Energy Management Plan in order to quantify the current emissions for all of the Town facilities, and provide an action plan on how to reduce the GHG (Greenhouse Gas Emissions) from current levels.

The Director of Building and Development Standards has been directed to create a report for council documenting all of the actions that have and are being taken by all the Town departments to adapt to and mitigate climate change.

The Mayor has committed to meeting with us in January and we are schedule to make a deputation to the council on January 13th.

Last month we sent a comprehensive letter to the Mayor and councilors to introduce WBCAT and make recommendations on what could be done to avert more disastrous Climate Change in our community

In early 2021, the CAO communicated with us to inform us of the Town’s current state in regards to Climate Change action. See Letter from CAO.

WE HAVE BIG PLANS FOR 2022

We plan to continue to work collaboratively with the Town Hall to create a Climate Action/Sustainability Plan.

We plan to encourage the community to get educated and aware of what they can do

We will inspire businesses to get involved

And lastly, we want to continue to grow our TEAM
