A non-directly elected warden of Simcoe County? Three local politicians ponder the possibility

With just eight months left in their four-year term, Simcoe County councillors will leave one potentially thorny issue to their successors.

The county’s governance committee met virtually Jan. 13 to discuss council structure and composition, in particular the possibility of appointing a non-directly elected individual as warden.

With county legal counsel and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing offering contradictory positions on the lawfulness of such a move, committee members decided to refer the matter to the 2022-26 term of council.
