The province is looking to strengthen Natural Heritage System (NHS) protections. This is a good thing. They have provided municipalities with maps of the proposed areas that should be included in the NHS. As part of the Municipal Comprehensive Reviews that are currently underway, municipalities can request that some of these proposed areas be removed, or request other areas be added. (You can read more about the provincial criteria here.)

Simcoe County is requesting significant removals from the proposed NHS. In particular, we have identified three “hot spots” that are threatened: Big Bay Point, the shores of Oro Medonte, and the shoreline in Ramara.

Citizen action is urgently required.

Here is how you can help:

  1. Register for our webinar to learn more.
  2. Make your own submission as part of the County’s consultation.
