Actions at home matter more than words in Glasgow

At the opening of the the United Nations climate negotiations (COP 26) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau talked about the deadly heatwave that Canada experienced this summer, and about Lytton burning to the ground as he urged world leaders “do more and faster” to address the climate crisis. [1] But actions at home matter far more than words in Glasgow, especially when under Trudeau’s watch, Canada has racked up the worst climate record in the G7. [2]
We simply can’t cut emissions fast enough unless we start winding down oil and gas production [3]. Trudeau admitted as much in his speech yesterday when he told the audience that “ensuring [emissions] never happen in the first place” is the best climate policy. To actually accomplish that, Canada needs a real plan to accelerate our energy transition, support affected workers and communities, and guarantee a good, green job to anyone who wants one.
