Leadnow member Andre is calling on Minister of Health Patty Hajdu to eliminate the use of toxic, bee-killing pesticides in agriculture.

Here’s a brief explanation of the campaign:

In Canada, agriculture uses pesticides based on neonicotinoids which are poisonous to all insects including the important pollinators – bees. We need to stop the use of this chemical to preserve our environment and stop poisoning ourselves.

Bees are crucial to life on earth — but right now, they’re in danger. Powerful pesticides called neonicotinoids are causing massive bee die-offs in Canada. Neonicotinoids are commonly used in agriculture, but they’re so deadly to bees that Europe banned their use last year. [1-3]

After bee populations experienced a devastating decline in 2018, the Ministry of Health promised to ban the use of neonicotinoids in Canada. But this summer, they quietly walked back their promise. [4]

That’s why we need you, Minister Hajdu is counting on this switch-back to fly under Canadians’ radar. But a massive petition will make it clear that she still needs to protect our bees, not the toxic profits of bee-killing chemical companies.

Will you sign the petition calling on Minister Hajdu to eliminate the use of neonicotinoids in agriculture?

Bees pollinate apples, cucumbers, strawberries, tomatoes, cauliflowers, onions, cabbages, broccoli, carrots, and many more of our fruit and vegetables. Without bees, we wouldn’t last very long! Help stop this new threat to their survival — sign the petition now.

With hope,
Kate, on behalf of the Leadnow team
