Clearview Township is selling County Road 91, one of the region’s busiest east-west thoroughfares, to a quarry for their private use. It is estimated that the sale value is well below market value.

To replace County Road 91, Clearview Township wants to pave a seasonal sideroad – damaging the environment, denying access to vehicles such as heavy trucks and farm equipment, and adding critical minutes to Emergency Services response times to Grey Highlands.

The road projects are already expected to be more than $1 million over budget – from Clearview taxpayers’ pockets!

We, the undersigned, are calling on Clearview Township Council to:

  • Stop the closure of County Road 91;
  • Withdraw its plans to upgrade 26/27 Nottawasaga Sideroad; and
  • Commit to protecting the Niagara Escarpment and the Township’s rare natural heritage features.

  1. I strongly oppose selling County Road 91 to a private aggregate extraction company.
This public road is important to the residents of this area, who paid for this road through their taxes.
It is totally unacceptable for a private company to be able to privatize an important public thoroughfare.
The County and the province has to stop giving aggregate extraction companies priority over private citizens and the environment.

  2. Holly Levinter says:

I oppose selling County Road 91 to a private company. It is a public roadway for the benefit of the residents and visitors to and through the area. As usual, the sale will be well below market value for the land as are most sales of provincial property. ‘
A seasonal sideroad is not the answer as it will pave over wetlands that provide significant benefit to our ecosystem.
    Leave Highway 91 intact.

  3. Heather Hufton says:

I too would not want to see 91 closed. 26/27 is not a viable alternative to 91. It would be unsafe for the wildlife. The road is quite unsuitable to drive on and would be dangerous in winter. Making emergency vehicles go up 26/27 or have them use 124 would increase response times for ambulances by 5 minutes which could be critical for accident victims etc. 91 was built with public money and should stay as a public asset.

  4. Debbie Cherry says:

Please leave well enough, alone. Keep everything as is, for the sake of Mother Nature AND our wallets.

  5. Michelle says:

I oppose this project, we need to protect wetlands

  6. D Casey says:

We have been opposed to this project for years, leave well enough ALONE

  7. Angela Girdwood says:

It’s just wrong, in every way! Simple. Please stop this injustice!

  8. Dick Corner says:

    Leave as is period.

  9. Wolfgang Zenker says:

It makes no sense to the community to close 91. It only makes sense to the aggregate company who will make a financial windfall.

  10. David Close says:

We should not be selling our public roads to a private entity and by doing so risk the lives of the taxpayers of Clearview due to increased emergency response times. Clearview council is responsible for the safety of their constituents and should be personally liable for any safety issues if this project proceeds.

  11. Leave well enough alone. Please save our wetlands and stop spending our hard earned money.
    Save County Road 91

  12. Ethel Tracey says:

We need wet lands. Clearview is responsible for the road and wetlands let’s do our part.
