From the North Gwillimbury Forest Alliance

The Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) has dismissed the request of Maple Lake Estates Inc. (MLE) for a review of the Tribunal’s December 2019 decision, which amended the Town of Georgina’s Official Plan by designating the MLE wetlands and woodlands as an Environmental Protection Area.

Following the release of the LPAT decision, Georgina Town Council decided to begin the process of rezoning of the MLE property to prohibit development on its wetlands and woodlands.

However, when MLE requested a review of the LPAT’s decision, the rezoning initiative was put on hold. The LPAT turned down MLE’s appeal on May 14th, but unaccountably did not advise the Town and the North Gwillimbury Forest Alliance (NGFA) until now.

NGFA very much looks forward to the Town resuming its rezoning work, beginning with a staff report to Council at the earliest possible opportunity on how to proceed.

Thanks to our lawyer, Leo Longo, our planning expert, Tony Usher, our board members Jim Keenan, Erin Kemp, Mary Lovett, Dan Merrill, Mike Sanderson, Sandra Villiers and Linda Wells, and our generous financial supporters who have helped make these victories possible.
