Thank to you to the residents ofTiny for your support, and to my fellow councillors for their hard work and support. It’s been an honour to serve as your mayor, and it’s an honour to have been acclaimed in the 2018 election. I look forward to serving the residents of Tiny for the next four years.

For those who don’t know me, I am a civil engineer. I graduated from the University of Toronto and spent 25 years in the oil and gas business in a number of positions, including vice-president of corporate development. My wife, Sandy, and I have lived in a number of cities across Canada and the U.S., including Toronto, London, Barrie, Halifax, Montreal, Calgary and Chicago. We have two adult children and two beautiful granddaughters, Sophie and Gabrielle, ages 2 and 4, respectively. Sandy and I bought our property and “retired” to Tiny in 2003.

I have been engaged in our community on many fronts: sitting on the board of the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre; and as former chair of the Huronia Airport Commission, Huronia Community Foundation and Physician Recruitment Golf Tournament.

Over the past four years, I have been actively involved in economic development here in North Simcoe through the Economic Development Corporation of NS and at the County of Simcoe as chair of the ED Sub Committee.

Over the next four years, I will work to continue our community engagement with council and staff through our YouTube live-streaming of council and committee meetings and our town hall meetings. I will also work to continue to improve the quality of life for our residents in Tiny to ensure a safe, active and inclusive community, addressing causes such as seniors and youth advisory committees, our environment, health and well-being, recreation, affordable housing, food insecurity and transit.

  1. Nancy Moysiuk says:

I understand that eradication of the invasive plant phragmites is a priority in Tiny.

In August 2018, in the California Court case of Johnson versus Monsanto, Monsanto was fined 289 million for failing to warn of cancer risks posed by exposure to Roundup. In 2015, the WHO listed glyphosate as a probable carcinogen. Roundup has been found to be toxic to gut microbiota. It is toxic to animals like amphibians, which frequent and breed in tidal zones.

In light of these cancer concerns, I am asking that Tiny not use pesticides, especially Roundup, to treat plants like phragmites, which grow in tidal zones in Georgian Bay. I am very concerned about these pesticides being in the water where children and adults could be exposed.

The Tiny Cottager still lists online their commitment to using Roundup, if only the MNR would let them. In light of these recent findings, perhaps the Cottager should reconsider their position and remove the online comment favouring Roundup.
