Craig Nixon — Springwater Ward 4 Candidate
I feel fortunate to have lived in the Snow Valley area of Springwater Township for the past 25 years.
I am seeking a council seat in Ward 4 which includes the communities of Grenfell, Snow Valley, Carson Ridge and Vespra Centre in this October’s municipal election.
Council has two primary roles. One is to act as the “board of directors” for the Corporation of Springwater Township and to protect and preserve the best interests of the township and its shareholders. Those shareholders are you. The other primary role is to act as a liaison between local government by providing its citizens a voice in the direction and planning of their communities. This may sound simple, but it is not an easy task.
Now more than ever Springwater Township needs strong leadership and vision. The anticipated population growth of the next several years will present many challenges. We need to control this growth to ensure that the rural roots and natural beauty are preserved. We need a council who will act in a fiscally responsible manner to manage the increased revenue stream that will result from this growth. Most importantly, we need a council who endeavour to ensure that this growth will result in positive change for all and improve our area. As one who has witnessed uncontrolled urban sprawl in the Greater Toronto Area and townships to the south, I will do everything I can to ensure that Springwater Township deals with this growth properly by respecting the past and by proper planning of the future.
As a successful business owner since the mid ’80s, I have learned the one of the most important things needed to achieve your goals is the ability to listen and learn from others. I welcome your comments, concerns and ideas. Feel free to share them with me at kcnixon@outlook.com or call or text 705-333-2625.
