Don Allen to Run for Mayor of the Township of Springwater
News release from Don Allen
I am announcing today that I am running for re-election in this October’s municipal election – this time for the position of Mayor of Springwater. First I would like to thank my wife Wanda, my family and my team of supporters who continue to provide me with much support, advice and encouragement.
I have enjoyed many experiences in the last three and a half years as Deputy Mayor of Springwater and County Councillor on Simcoe County Council.
Springwater Council has achieved some progress over this period however, there are a lot of matters in the early stages of work that need to be completed.
Achieving the right results in the completion of these initiatives will have a very significant impact for the Township and its future.
I feel very involved and committed to these initiatives and I want to play a key role in leading Council as a team, to attain the best results.
My finance and leadership experience in business over my career will help lead a strong Council, working with staff and County Council, to accomplish significant results in many areas.
Strong organizational, communicating and negotiating skills will be required in dealing with development throughout Springwater, including the Midhurst Secondary Plan and other developments in the various communities.
Strong skills in fiscal management will be key as Springwater negotiates and finalizes millions of dollars of costs for infrastructure and other community spending, as the Township grows. This will need to be accomplished in a fashion that is affordable and workable for all Springwater residents.
One of my primary objectives will be ensuring the ongoing importance of farmers and agriculture, through tangible initiatives that will help them maintain and grow their operations and realize the value they deserve for their hard work.
I will implement a plan for the creation of significant tangible initiatives in economic development, for existing and new business in Springwater.
Progress in planning, with the Official Plan completion and other planning changes, will need to be accomplished optimally, in conjunction with the ongoing Simcoe County Municipal Comprehensive Review.
All of this and more will require working proactively and effectively as a team with Springwater Council and staff, Simcoe County Council and staff and the Province of Ontario. My working with Simcoe County Council in different leadership positions over this term continues to provide me with ongoing momentum to accomplish positive results over the next 4 years.
This will require a leader who is a teambuilder, who works well with people, is a good listener, and negotiator, and who pays attention to the details in getting things done right. I will accomplish this – hence my vision is – Leadership – Driving Us Forward.
I will provide my full attention to getting this done when I become Mayor. I will be winding down and selling my current restructuring practice, to accomplish this exciting progress. Be sure to stay informed, by following my website www.donallen.ca and my ongoing social media information.
