Ojibway Councillor Clayton King from Beausoleil First Nation is expected to attend tomorrow’s Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) pre-hearing into the proposed Nelson/LaFarge gravel pit in Adjala/Tosorontio, to request a moratorium on the application.

It’s the second pre-hearing, the first held last September with five groups provided party status (call and interview witnesses/make final summations). They are Somerville Nurseries, Alliston and District Humane Society, Breedon Maple Syrup, Beausoleil First Nation and Concerned Citizens in Adjala/Tosorontio Inc. (CCAT).

Nelson’s proposal is to extract about one million tonnes of aggregate from property near Everett, and has received approval from Adjala Tosorontio council and Simcoe County. Those decisions were appealed to the OMB, including hundreds of objections from Township residents and organizations.

Tomorrow’s pre-hearing takes place at the Adj/Tos Municipal offices at 7855 30th Side Road beginning at 10 a.m. It’s also expected motions will be made by the Alliston & District Humane Society and Concerned Citizens in Adjala/Tosorontio Inc. (CCAT Inc.) in opposition to the application.
