Saturday, June 25: Tiny Marsh BioBlitz
From MTM Conservation Association
The Second Annual Tiny Marsh BioBlitz will build on the success of the first BioBlitz held last year, with more leaders, more topics and more locations across the Marsh.
Early starters who turn out for the 6 am walks will get a chance to see the wonderful variety of birds at Tiny Marsh.
Plant lovers who like to check every petal, examine every leaf, are invited to do just that, in a walk starting at 9:30 am.
The Pollinator Patrols (one starting at 10 am and one at 1 pm) will be led by two graduate students from the Dr. Laurence Packer Bee Lab at York University.
The Family Walks leave at 10 am, and BioBlitzers aged 12 and under will be challenged to fill out the passport of species found during the outing. This is a great way for kids to learn about the diversity within Tiny Marsh and have fun along the way. A prize awaits those who complete the checklist.
There’s a short and easy stroll setting off at 11 am with a focus on photography. Lunch is at noon and then the search will resume, with a repeat of some of the morning’s walks in different locations, so everyone has a chance to look for and learn about a variety of species.
For a full schedule, check the MTM website. A $10 registration ($5 for youth 16 and under, children 6 and under get in free) will allow you to participate in any or all of the 15 different walks, from 6 am to 6 pm and includes lunch and a t-shirt.
Register in advance to be sure of getting a t-shirt. For more information, email bioblitz@mtmconservation.org or call 705-527-0568.
