from the Nature Conservancy of Canada

Join the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) and the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) to plant trees along the Nottawasaga River in the Minesing Wetlands.

Minesing Wetlands (Angus, Ontario)
Thursday, May 26, 2016
Saturday, May 28, 2016
9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Over the past 60 years, 42% of the forest cover in the Minesing Wetlands has been lost to changing land use, tree disease and severe storms, and we need your help to restore this significant habitat. Once grown, the trees that we plant will provide habitat to forest birds and other wildlife, shade and cool the river, and stabilize the riverbanks and reduce erosion.

The Minesing Wetlands live up to their name, so be prepared to get wet! There will be a 30 minute hike over possibly flooded trail to reach the planting site.

This event will proceed rain or shine, so please dress for the conditions: rubber boots, long pants, comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting dirty, a hat, and a change of dry clothes. Please bring your own lunch and refillable water bottle. You may also bring your own work gloves and chest waders, if you have them. This event is suitable for ages 14 and up.

NCC and NVCA will provide gloves and chest waders for those who need them as well as extra snacks and water. There will be no on-site washroom facilities at this event. No previous experience is required.
Additional event details, including directions, will be provided after registration.

Minesing Wetlands is a provincially and internationally significant wetland, and is home to over 400 species of plants, 200 species of birds, and diversity of other terrestrial and aquatic wildlife. Seasonal flooding means that the wetland interior is inaccessible by foot for much of the year – this is your chance to venture inside this hidden gem!

If you’d like to carpool to the event, please click here, https://www.groupcarpool.com/t/o58mfd to add your car or join a ride going to the event. There is also a waitlist feature if there isn’t a ride there yet that works for you. Happy carpooling!
