From the Springwater Township website

The Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe provides the County of Simcoe with an additional 20,000 people to allocate to area municipalities. As a result of this, the County Official Plan was amended to provide the opportunity for municipalities and developers to request a portion of the available 20,000 population.

Springwater Council has passed a resolution to not support any private requests for allocation, however the decision rests with County Council. Currently there are five (5) applications for an extra 6120 people in the Midhurst area.

Parties wanting to submit comments should contact the County Clerk at 705-726-9300 Ext. 1623 or email john.daly@simcoe.ca by May 13, 2016. Written comments must also be received by May 13, 2016. The hearing will be conducted as part of the County meeting scheduled on May 24 at the County of Simcoe Administration Centre (1110 Highway 26, Midhurst). The Council Meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 am and the 20,000 Population Allocation Hearing is scheduled to begin at 11 am.

  1. Don Kerr says:

The people of a municipalities must be allowed to object to population increases that are not sustainable; that is, increases that threaten biodiversity and the natural environment. The addition of 20,000 persons would seem to violate this principle.
