News release from Simcoe County

The County of Simcoe is hosting open house public information sessions Nov. 9 and 17 to obtain feedback from residents and stakeholders about public transit in the county.

Since the last round of public consultation in June, the county has developed a draft network of new transit connections. There is potential some of those connections could be implemented within the next five years. Preliminary details related to potential fares and funding for the proposed services have also been developed and will be shared during the public sessions.

“We are investigating how we can play a more significant role in enhancing regional transit connections,” said Warden Gerry Marshall. “We are 16 municipalities within one large border. Linking our municipalities together through more efficient transit systems brings us closer together and will provide greater access to opportunities from one end of Simcoe County to the other.”

Feedback will be considered for inclusion in the county’s transit feasibility and implementation study and build on strategies outlined in the 2014 transportation master plan update.

The Nov. 9 session will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Midland Public Library. The Nov. 17 session will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the New Tecumseth Public Library, Alliston Memorial branch.

Residents who can’t attend a session can participate online through a live webcast of both meetings. To access the webcast for the Midland session, visit bit.ly/webcastmidland. To access the webcast for the Alliston session, visit bit.ly/webcastalliston.

Residents can also participate in an online survey. The survey will be available until Nov. 27 at simcoe.ca/transitstudy. Info sessions focus on county transit
