There’s been a shake-up at town hall, as the Town of Wasaga Beach and its clerk and manager of planning and development parted ways on Thursday.

Clerk Twyla Nicholson had served as the town’s clerk for six years. Manager of planning Ray Kelso had worked for the municipality for 12 years.

The town’s Chief Administrative Officer George Vadeboncoeur confirmed the two staff are gone effective Aug. 20 in an interview with The Sun, Aug. 21.

According to municipal officials, the changes are part of an ongoing review of the organization and structure of the municipal operation.

The Sec. 228 of the Municipal Act requires a municipality to have a clerk to record the proceedings of council, to maintain bylaws, and to perform other duties required under the act. In Wasaga Beach – as with other municipalities – the clerk’s office also oversees bylaw enforcement, issues marriage licences, administers Municipal Freedom of Information requests, and oversees municipal elections.

Vadeboncoeur said the municipality has that base covered, as they have a deputy-clerk on staff and he has also been designated deputy-clerk from the moment he took the job as CAO.

Vadeboncoeur said he will be reviewing the organizational structure, and bringing forward recommendations for council’s consideration at a later date.

“Anytime we have something like this, there’s an opportunity to look at how we do things,” he said. “I’m not saying there will be any changes, but I will be doing a review and bringing something forward in September.”
