News release from Springwater Township

The Township of Springwater is pleased that Springwater Provincial Park will reopen as the result of a 5-year co-management and operational agreement between the Beausoleil First Nations and the Province of Ontario.

The Park, located in Springwater Township, offers 12 kilometers of hiking trails, picnic facilities and a large open playing area. In September 2012 it was announced that the status of Springwater Provincial Park would be changing to non-operational due to low visitation and financial losses.

The new operational agreement between the Beausoleil First Nations and the Province of Ontario will restore the Park’s operational status, with the Beausoleil First Nations taking responsibility for the staffing, maintenance and general operation of the Park. The Park will remain a Crown asset and be owned and enjoyed by the people of Ontario.

“We are delighted to hear that Springwater Park will be reopening to the public and returning to operational status,” says Mayor Bill French, Township of Springwater. “The Park is a natural treasure and brings people from near and far to appreciate the beauty of our landscapes. This agreement shows the power of partnerships and we look forward to working with the Beausoleil First Nations and the Province of Ontario.”
