Tiny Council Meeting Monday April 27, 2015

By Vickie Kee AWARE Tiny

Deputy-Mayor Walma was absent.

Mayor Cornell announced that there is a Tiny Township Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday May 27, 2015 from 7:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. at the Township of Tiny Community Centre, 91 Concession 8 East. Meet your members of council. Enjoy some refreshments and provide your input.

No ATVs on Tiny trails
A presentation to council was made from Inspector Andres Ferguson representing the O.P.P. with regards to 2014 year end report. It was routine except that he mentioned about ATV’S and bicycles were going to be used on the Tiny trails for patrolling them. Council reminded him that ATV’s are not allowed on the trail system which he replied that already knew about this.

Waypoint seeks funding
A presentation was made by Laurene Hilderley, Director of Communications and Fund Development,
and Ms. Carol Lambie, President and CEO of Waypoint Centre For Mental Health Care. They are looking for funding for new equipment and technology. Waypoint coverage is Simcoe County, Muskoka & Parry Sound District and part of Duffeerin County.

Huronia airport solar project
A presentation was made to council by Mr. John Smith, manager of Huronia Airport and Mr. Don Cooper, chair of the Huronia Airport Commission regarding the proposed solar project for Huronia Airport. They are looking for approval and a commitment from Tiny council for their grant application to EthoSolar. Councillor Hinton asks Doug Luker, CEO, if there has been enough time to go over the details of this proposal and Mr. Luker replied that staff has not received any information about this solar proposal. Apparently, there will not be any information given to staff until Tiny council approves the application. Councillor Hinton replied that he refuses to sign any document that could be used for other forms of Green Energy. A lot of questions need to be asked, says Mr. Luker.
If this falls under the Green Energy Act, council has no control over what happens here. Council is divided over the issue but at the evening meeting, council voted 3-1 in favour of referring this issue to staff.
Septage Update
Even if Tiny has their own septage system or manages to find someone to take our septage, there is nothing to stop the other communities of Midland and Penetanguishene from dumping their septage in our fields. The Septage Committee has to find a way to approach these communities.

Leica award

A presentation of a certificate was given to Andre de Winter from Tiny Township to recognize him for his Academy Award that was given to him for the mechanical design of the Leica Summilux C series of lenses from the Academy’s Scientific & Technical Awards held on February 7, 2015 in Beverley Hills, California. He immigrated to Canada from Holland and has worked at Leitz in Midland for 46 years.
