Report of Tiny Township Council Meeting Monday February 9, 2015

By Vickie Kee AWARE Tiny

The main focus of this meeting was to find a solution of what to do with the restoration of Hall’s Creek which is situated at Davy Lane and Tiny Beaches Road South.
The four options are:
         1.  Stabilization by cribbing and slope protection.
         2.  Slope Stabilization by sheet piling.
         3.  Straighten the creek.
         4.  Relocate road to the west.
Keith Sherman, from the Severn Sound Environmental Association, stated that when you touch a stream, you have to get permission from the agencies involved. Apparently the creek cannot be touched until July. Burnside has decided to do more study on this issue.Thers was a Municipal Office Building Feasability Study presented by Burnside. The three options are:
            1.  Renovate
            2. Construct a new building on site.
            3.  Construct a new building on a new site.
Deputy-Mayor Walma says that he is impressed with the Springwater Municipal Building. Burnside states that the Springwater Municipal building cost 4.6 million dollars to build.  Ouch! I was at the grand opening of that Springwater building back in the days of Tony Guergis. I remember that there was an issue about the nails protruding through the ceiling which he complained to the builder about.
Septage Update
I was approached by Councillor Hastings at the beginning of today’s council meeting. She informed me that council has NOW decided to stay on Phase 2 but go back a few steps. Well, we shall have to wait and see what this really means. I am all for saving the taxpayers money.
Update Beamish Quarry Expansion
New info came to light, after the recent public meeting, that the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry recently approved 2 more Sarjeant gravel pits, both at the end of French Road. One of the pits is proposed to extract aggregate below the water table.
