Outgoing New Tecumseth mayor Mike MacEachern has ended the speculation and this morning told Free Press Online that he will be seeking the nomination to run as the Simcoe-Grey candidate for the Liberal Party in the next federal election, scheduled for October 2015.

Mr. MacEachern, whose 17 years as a member of New Tecumseth council, the last 11 as mayor, will officially end when Mayor-elect Rick Milne and the new councillors are sworn into office on December 1.

“I am currently following the Nomination and Green Light process in hopes of being green lit to participate in the open nomination meeting contest for the Liberal Party in the Simcoe-Grey riding,” he said in an email this morning. “My experience municipally and through my non-profit work has given me a great understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing people in communities throughout Simcoe-Grey.”

Mr. MacEachern is the Executive Director of FOCUS Community Development Corporation which delivers a variety of employment programs in south Simcoe County.

“I want to run because I consider it a privilege to serve the community.”

Simcoe-Grey is currently represented by Conservative, Kellie Leitch.
