MIDLAND – Midlanders voted Monday for another four years with Gord McKay as mayor. Mike Ross will take over as deputy mayor.
McKay beat former mayor Jim Downer – who he narrowly defeated in the 2010 municipal election – by 461 ballots this time around. McKay got 2,449 votes (45.5 per cent), while Downer grabbed 1,988 (36.9 per cent).
An elated McKay shook hands and hugged supporters after his win. He said he was “well aware” it would be a close race because Downer has many supporters.
