Leo Losereit will be running for mayor of Adjala-Tosorontio in this fall’s elections.
Loseriet announced his decision to run at a meeting on Sunday organized by the Everett Ratepayers Association to discuss the next moves to stop a bylaw which would see the village increase in population to almost 10,000 people over the next 20 years.
Losereit, a ruminant specialist, has run for mayor of the township before and was defeated by the current mayor Tom Walsh in 2010. He also served as the Everett area councillor between 2000 and 2003.
Losereit said Sunday that he had been considering running for at time and was planning to officially register as a official candidate for mayor in the near future.
Current Lisle area councillor Scott Anderson is the only person registered to run in this fall’s municipal election. Candidates have until September 12 to register for the municipal ballot. The election will be held on October 27.
Adjala-Tosorontio mayor not running again
Leo Losereit seeking mayor’s seat

ADJALA-TOSORONTIO – Longtime Adjala-Tosorontio mayor Tom Walsh is not seeking another term on council in the upcoming municipal election.
The Herald talked to Walsh, who is on vacation in Florida, this afternoon and he said the time has come for him to give up the chain of command.
“My intention is to retire and I will be making a public announcement later this year in the summer,” he said.
Walsh has been in municipal politics for over 30 years and has served as mayor for multiple terms. He said he is looking forward to spending more time with his wife Mary and to having more time to run his family’s farm near Loretto.
Walsh confirmed his decision with The Herald after former township councillor and Everett resident Leo Losereit announced he is taking another shot at the mayor’s seat.
Losereit, a longtime outspoken critic of Walsh, ran for mayor in the 2010 and 2006 municipal elections. Previous to that he served as the councillor for Everett.
“I have the energy, focus and the determination to follow through with projects and ground level ideas while keeping the taxpayer in mind for savings and efficiencies,” he said in a statement.
Losereit is the current president of Everett Baseball Association, an executive member of Everett Legion, a board member of South Simcoe Minor Baseball, vice-chair of Alliston Area Physician Recruitment Committee and the secretary-treasurer of Cookstown Curling Club.
Losereit is now the second person to register for the Oct. 27 municipal election in Adjala-Tos.
In January, Lisle resident Scott Anderson filed his papers to seek a second term as the councillor for Ward 5.
