Wasaga Beach Councillor Nina Bifolchi has been reelected to a second term as chair of the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority.

An election was held at the NVCA’s annual general meeting on Jan. 10.

Gail Ardiel, councillor for The Blue Mountains, was elected vice chair.

After two tie votes between incumbent Bifolchi and vice chair Darren White, member for Melancthon, the names were put into a hat, as per the organization’s procedure, and Bifolchi’s name was drawn.

“It sounds crappy being picked from a hat, but quite frankly I am happy. My concern is that I wanted to see the efficiency audit review to completion. That was my thing so I am happy to be back there, and happy to do that,” said Bifolchi.

She is hoping the audit will reveal some cost savings for member municipalities.

She has voiced opposition to the organization’s annual increases.

“We’ve shown our displeasure for it because we really think that the different program areas should have been looked at more in depth, looked for more cost savings, however that didn’t happen,” said Bifolchi. “Through the efficiency audit, I am really hoping that we will see some changes.”

The board is interviewing consultants in the coming weeks. She said she hopes the final report will be done in the spring and after being considered by board members, recommendations would be implemented later this year.

“This review is long overdue in my opinion so I want to get it done,” said Bifolchi.
