Residents attend meeting, concerned about growth impact on municipal taxes

Ratepayers groups from across Simcoe County are trying to work together to have a say on residential growth.
At a meeting this weekend in Midhurst, people concerned about the Midhurst Secondary Plan hosted about 70 people from other ratepayers groups across the county.
The Secondary Plan would allow Midhurst to grow to a town of 30,000 people over the next three decades from its current size of 3,500.
Margaret Prophet, who lives in Midhurst, says the people who live there aren’t against growth, but they want to be sure future growth doesn’t hurt municipal budgets or come at the expense of the environment.
Prophet says most of the 70 people people at the meeting were already members of ratepayers associations across Simcoe County, and they have agreed to work more closely in the future.
