Simcoe County Clerks and Treasurers Association has turned down a request by the County to include a designation on the municipal ballot that would include County Councillor next to the mayor and deputy mayor slot.

The request made in September, and rejected last month, went to the Clerks because they run municipal and school board elections.

“While it has been agreed to by the following municipalities: Tay, Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny, Severn, Adjala- Tosorontio, Ramara, Springwater, Clearview, Wasaga Beach, Essa, Oro-Medonte, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Collingwood, lnnisfil and New Tecumseth to include the responsibilities of a County Councillor within their candidate’s package as provided by the County,” according to a November 26 letter from the SCCTA to Simcoe County Clerk Brenda Clark, explaining their decision, “they have also agreed and wish to inform you that they will not be including the designation of County Councillor on the municipal ballots as the content of the ballot is dictated by the Municipal Elections Act, there is limited space on the existing ballot and it would cause also confusion amongst the voters.”

In New Tecumseth, pending any change in previous direction, the municipal ballot next October will include a plebiscite as to whether fluoride should be added to water systems in Alliston, Beeton, and Tottenham. That issue is expected to be confirmed early in 2014.
