Barrie is updating its source-water protection maps to include the new surface water treatment plant on Big Bay Point Road.
The plant pulls in lake water from Kempenfelt Bay and treats it to drinking-water standards.
Barrie is applying the same development restrictions and standards it does to areas 100 metres around artesian wells in the city, primarily in its west end. The policies outlaw fuel stations and dry cleaners in those areas.
