SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP release September 18, 2013
At a Special Meeting held September 17, 2013, Council chose to maintain the direction of the land use policies provided within the Midhurst Secondary Plan.

150 residents listened as the Township solicitor outlined the history and planning processes followed in the development of the Midhurst Secondary Plan. The solicitor also addressed the potential liability estimated to be in excess of $100 million should Council rescind the plan.
Springwater’s land use policies began taking shape in 1998 with the approval of Springwater’s Official Plan. The Midhurst Secondary Plan was adopted by County Council in 2011. Provincial Regulations governing the application of the Growth Plan were unilaterally amended by the Province in 2012 by incorporating a “Special Rule”, which effectively permits development applications for up to 300 hectares of land specifically within the Midhurst Secondary Plan.
The Province mandated that growth must be absorbed within established settlement areas, for which Midhurst is one (1) of nine (9) settlement areas in Springwater.

Springwater is a municipality of approximately 18,000 residents located in the heart of Simcoe County. Springwater Township is home to the second largest concentration of County Forests and is a popular destination for outdoor activities in all four seasons.
