Libel and Slander Act, R.S.O. 1990, CHAPTER L.12
• _Notice of Motion was first received on July 15, 2013 by the Mover, Councillor Webster
• _Councillor Webster may speak to the Previous Notice of Motion for the first time on August 26, 2013, upon receiving a Seconder.
• _Upon being Seconded, all members may deliberate.

Whereas the Township of Springwater is committed in its efforts to be open, transparent and to engage stakeholders via public meetings, newspaper, website, facebook, twitter and email lists; and
Stakeholders are encouraged to remain engaged in their efforts of municipal government by attending open meetings of Council and registering for the various methods to receive communication from the Township that meets their information needs; and
Stakeholders are encouraged to share facts on matters with all stakeholders on municipal operations and accountability; and
Stakeholders are encouraged to provide any and all evidence contrary to law to appropriate authorities and the courts; and
Notwithstanding our unbridled support of stakeholders, where a stakeholder publishes slanderous unsubstantiated innuendo suggesting wrongdoing by elected and Township officials, that where unsupported allegations and innuendo of wrong doing is distributed or published, that the Township engage legal services to seek relief from such irresponsible behaviour, such as but not limited to authorities and the courts; and
That legal services publicly comment on the application of the Libel and Slander Act in this regard so all stakeholders can make informed decisions prior to publishing personal views not substantiated by fact and reported.
