County looks ahead, two per cent tax hike on the horizon
Simcoe County is projecting a 2014 tax levy increase of two per cent, as part of its “initial direction and assumptions for the development of the budget draft,” which would raise approximately $2.6 million more than the 2013 levy of $131,472,447. New Tecumseth ratepayers are the second largest contributors of County taxes, tapped for $12.9 million, or 9.8 per cent of the total this year. Innisfil tops out at $15 million or 11.6 per cent. Simcoe County’s operating budget in 2013 was $415 million.
County councillors last week directed that a $4.1 million surplus from 2012 be dispersed as follows: $1.6 million for a specific roads project in 2014; $1.5 million social housing reserve; and $1 million towards debt (Administration Centre).
