After a nearly 2 year process, at the June 25 special meeting of council, Bradford West Gwillimbury council voted to retain the South Simcoe Police Service (SSPS). Council congratulated themselves on a job well done and savings achieved. (Interestingly this same council, last week, approved increasing the ceilings and minimums on staff salaries without much comment, because staff “deserves to be well paid.”) EDITORIAL COMMENT: Really this was  a victory for the 100s of folks that got involved with the process. Because of the  involvement of citizens the process was changed to become more transparent. People challenged and corrected the numbers generated by the town. They attended meetings and spoke out at council. What seemed like a forgone conclusion to replace the SSPS became a real analysis and a fairly transparent process. I congratulate the citizens who participated.
