At the May 21 council meeting, James Leduc, supported by Raj Sandhu , bought forward  a motion to have our BWG council write to Hon. Peter Van Loan and ask him to urge the Prime Minister to call in the RCMP to investigate the current scandal that started in the senate and grew to include the PMO.  Council voted this down with only Councillors Sandhu and Leduc voting in favour. Mayor Doug White seemed to sum up council’s feelings when he said that it wasn’t appropriate for council to interfere in federal matters, and it smacked of activism. He said further that if people wanted they could contact the Hon. Peter Van Loan themselves.
The Mike Duffy affair isn’t really about $90,000, it is about what appear to bemultiple breaches of trust at the highest level of government. In my opinion, a senate committee, operating in secret is not going to get the answers. I also think that changing the Senate rules at this point is not the solution.
I ask everyone in our riding to contact our MP and demand that the Prime Minister get to the bottom of this, through a transparent, non-partisan process. The only way our politicians will be accountable is if we get involved and hold them accountable. You can contact our MP here:
