Information about waste bid kept from councillors leading up to vote
By Nikki Million-Cole Midland Mirror April 17 2013
SIMCOE COUNTY – Penetanguishene Mayor Gerry Marshall wants to improve the way the County of Simcoe provides bid information to members of council.
Marshall brought up the issue up at a corporate services meeting April 10 after learning council had unknowingly voted on an item that included two proposals from the same company. The firm was bidding for a contract to export 50 per cent of the garbage currently going into county landfills.
“There’s an RFP (request for proposal) policy and process at the County of Simcoe that’s not very transparent to councillors,” he said. “We find out things after the fact that we should have known before the decision.”
