More than $82 million will be pumped into Highway 400 improvements from the Canal Road to Innisfil Beach Road, York-Simcoe MP Peter Van Loan announced this morning.
The federal and provincial governments will invest up to $41.5 million each to rehabilitate more than 26 kilometres along the highway in Simcoe County. Work will include asphalt resurfacing, drainage repairs and median barrier replacement, improving the safety and ride quality when driving through the area.
“Highway 400 is extremely important to York-Simcoe residents. These improvements are an investment in the local economy,” said Van Loan. “We expect that highway improvements will have a direct and positive impact on residents and local businesses that rely on the 400 to distribute goods, make their businesses easily accessible, and get to and from work safely.”
A new interchange at Highway 400 and Concession 5 of Bradford West Gwillimbury will be constructed. Concession 5 will be widened from two to four lanes.
Federal funding under the Major Infrastructure Component is conditional upon the completion of a review of the project, the completion of environmental assessments and the signing of a contribution agreement.
“All levels of government are coming together today to benefit our region,” said County of Simcoe Warden Cal Patterson. “This funding will assist with infrastructure projects that will not only help stimulate our economy and create jobs for Simcoe County residents, but also keep them safer while travelling our roads
